Waiting for three o'clock
Three is the standard hotel check-in time: plenty of hotels hand over rooms at 3 PM, once the morning's checkouts have been cleaned. If you've landed early, this is the countdown to a shower and a nap.
It's school pickup for a lot of families, too, and the middle of the afternoon dip, when alertness naturally sags after lunch. A clear countdown makes the last stretch feel shorter.

Can I check in to a hotel before 3 PM?
Sometimes. Early check-in depends on the hotel and how full it is; asking ahead, or leaving your bags at the desk, is the usual route. The countdown tells you how long you'd otherwise wait.
Does the countdown go wrong when the clocks change?
No. It follows your device's clock, so on the day the clocks go forward or back it counts to the real 3 PM, not to a moment 24 hours after the last one.
