There are two kinds of sound on a timer and most sites only give you one. The alarm is what plays at zero — four tones, previewable in settings. The bed is what plays while the countdown runs — rain, ocean, a fireplace, a coffee shop, a summer night, brown noise, white noise or a focus pad. Pick both below; the bed fades out as the alarm rings so the two never collide.

How to Use the Timer with Sound
- Press Start — or the Space bar — to run the 20 minute countdown. Space also pauses and resumes it; R resets it
- Adjust by 1 minute with the +/- buttons while it runs, toggle Repeat to loop it, and check the finish time shown under the display
- Use the Fullscreen control below the timer for a room-sized countdown (Esc to exit)
- Choose or mute the alarm in the header's sound settings, and pick a background sound — rain, ocean, fireplace or brown noise — that fades out at zero
- Enable notifications to be alerted when your timer with sound finishes in a background tab, and add
?autostart=1to the link to start the countdown on load
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the background sounds streamed?▾
No. They are synthesised in your browser with the Web Audio API, so there is nothing to download, no buffering, no ads, and no audible loop point. They keep working with the connection off.
Why is there no sound until I press start?▾
Browsers block audio until you interact with the page. Pressing Start — or tapping any background sound — unlocks it. That is also why the alarm needs the timer to have been started by a click or tap.
Can I have sound during the countdown but silence at the end?▾
Yes. Mute alarms with the speaker button in the header and keep a background bed selected. The bed still fades out at zero, so the room goes quiet instead of an alarm sounding.
Is there a ticking sound?▾
There is a tick option in settings, off by default. Most people find a bed like rain or brown noise less intrusive than a per-second tick over a long countdown.
