5 Minute Timer with Music

A 5 minute countdown with an ambient bed that fades out at zero.

Five minutes of rain is a reset rather than a work session — long enough to step out of whatever you were doing, short enough that you will actually come back. Useful between meetings, after a difficult email, or as the break half of a pomodoro cycle.

About the 5 Minute Timer with Music

Free 5 minute timer with background music and ambient sound. Starts with rain, runs without ads or buffering, and fades the sound out when the alarm rings.

TimerHub calculates remaining time from an absolute finish timestamp, so missed browser callbacks do not create drift. Read the timing accuracy methodology and reproducible tests.

Common Uses

  • Break between pomodoro rounds
  • Reset after a hard conversation
  • Five-minute breathing pause
  • Transition between meetings
  • Short stretch away from the screen

How to Use the 5 Minute Timer with Music

  • Press Start — or the Space bar — to run the 5 minute countdown. Space also pauses and resumes it; R resets it
  • Adjust by 1 minute with the +/- buttons while it runs, toggle Repeat to loop it, and check the finish time shown under the display
  • Use the Fullscreen control below the timer for a room-sized countdown (Esc to exit)
  • Choose or mute the alarm in the header's sound settings, and pick a background sound — rain, ocean, fireplace or brown noise — that fades out at zero
  • Enable notifications to be alerted when your 5 minute timer with music finishes in a background tab, and add ?autostart=1 to the link to start the countdown on load

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the music come from — is it a YouTube video?

Neither. Every background sound is generated live in your browser with the Web Audio API. Nothing streams, nothing buffers, there are no ads or mid-roll breaks, and the sound never loops back on itself because it is never the same two seconds running.

Does the sound stop when the timer finishes?

Yes. The background bed fades out over about four seconds as the alarm sounds, so you always hear the end of the countdown. Pausing the timer fades the sound out too, and resuming brings it back.

Can I use the background sound without the visual backdrop?

Yes. The backdrop is a separate toggle in the background sound panel. Turn it off for a plain black screen, or leave it on and switch to fullscreen for a full-screen rain window, starfield, or ember drift behind the countdown.

Will it keep playing if I switch tabs?

The countdown keeps running from an absolute finish time, so it stays accurate in a background tab. Browsers may throttle audio in hidden tabs, so keep the tab visible — or in a Picture-in-Picture float — if you want unbroken sound.
