About the 6 second timer

Six seconds is a small but useful unit. It is the pause emotional-intelligence trainers suggest before you react, the most a YouTube bumper ad can run, the length of every Vine ever posted, and the long out-breath in 4-6 breathing. Press Start and it beeps at zero; R and Space run it again.

A 6 second timer for the six-second pause, checking 6-second bumper ads and a slow 4-6 out-breath. Big digits and a beep at zero. Free, no ads.

TimerHub calculates remaining time from an absolute finish timestamp, so missed browser callbacks do not create drift. Read the timing accuracy methodology and reproducible tests.

6 second timer FAQ

What is the six-second rule for emotions?
It's the idea, popularised by emotional-intelligence trainers, that the first surge of a strong feeling fades in about six seconds, so pausing that long before you reply helps you respond instead of react. A visible six-second countdown is a simple way to practise the habit.
How long is a YouTube bumper ad?
Up to six seconds, and viewers can't skip it. Read your script aloud against the timer, or play your edit beside it, to check it fits. For longer spots, the 10 second and 15 second timers are next door.
How do I do 4-6 breathing?
Breathe in through your nose for four seconds, then out slowly for six. That is ten seconds a breath, about six breaths a minute. Start the 6 second timer at the top of each out-breath, or use the 4 second timer for the in-breath.
Can I loop a 6 second countdown?
This page counts a single six seconds: press R, then Space, to go again. For a loop that runs by itself, set the Interval Timer to six-second rounds with no rest.
Does it keep time in a background tab?
Yes. It counts to an absolute end time, so switching tabs or locking the screen cannot make it drift, and it beeps the moment the six seconds are up.
